Good speckled trout action in Sarasota

Fishing was excellent early in the week. Warm weather and strong incoming tides resulted in steady action on Speckled trout, ladyfish, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, flounder, and sea bass on the deep flats ate Marker # 5, the Radio Tower and Middlegrounds. Gold D.O.A. shad tail jigs and live shrimp produced for me this week. Later in the week as the front passes, the area near Spanish Pt. was decent for ladyfish and speckled trout on jigs. Winter Osprey, FL resident Peggy Heaslip treated her two friends Cathy Dorricott and Sandy Wilson to an afternoon charter on Tuesday. The girls wanted a few fish for dinner and the speckled trout co-operated. Four fat trout around 17" went into the box along with a flounder and a nice sea bass. The Radio Tower was the best spot. I spent one breezy day fishing the Myakka River near Venice. Snook action has been good, but I wanted to try something different and used ultra light tackle and targeted panfish. I caught a nice mess of shellcracker, bluegill, and red breasts on Beetlespins and nightcrawlers. 3 bass to 2 1/2 pounds were a fun bonus on the light tackle.{%image_id=24322%}
