Last week we fished with Jack Balme of Sebastian, an excellent angler whose dock is still out of commission following the summer hurricanes. Water temps were low, and we had to deal with a lot of wind, but we caught about a dozen sea trout, some large ladyfish up to 32", and some jacks. Today we had three fishermen aboard--Dixon Downey III of Rowayton, Connecticut, and two friends who live in Vero Beach--Dan Corrigan and Dominic Strazzula. After a slow start, with water temps 57-59 degrees, we made our way towards the mouth of the Sebastian Inlet, and along the flats we found some nice sea trout and silver trout. They had a ball, using black Sparkling Beetle and Gulp Shrimp lures. Among the catch were a mangrove snapper and one pompano. Almost 30 fish were tallied; all were released. The weather's been cool for this time of year, but we're hoping for higher temperatures, some more sunshine and less wind--to make things easier on the Indian River.
