Departure from the ramp this morning was a bit hectic with a group from the Jacksonville area heading out for a club T. Also the crappie season is fast approaching and quite a few came to spend the day and hopefully catch a nights dinner. We spent the bulk of the day on the Stick Marsh working areas that we could find of clear water. Today was a bit tougher than Friday but at days end there were 15 that made it to the boat and another 15-20 that were missed. Top water baits were the successful baits today. Average size was about 3 pounds with big fish for the day weighing in at 5 pounds. Today, we departed the ramp at 6:00AM and headed to the same areas. The weatherman was calling for a good chance of rain and higher winds. However, other than a stiff breeze we had good weather until we left at 12:30. Again today we went for the top water bait and chug bugs accounted for all of the bass that we caught. 32 bass to 5 pounds made it to the boat and we easily missed (or they missed us) another 20. The key to getting the bass was clear water with little hydrilla. There are areas all over the Stick Marsh that meet this criteria and just about all of them are holding fish. They don't have to be large open areas either. We caught bass in openings that only allowed for a couple of pops on the chug bugs. Find the openings and you should have a good time catching. Enjoy yourself out there. There is plenty of wildlife to entertain you throughout the day even if the bite is a bit off. Remember that fishing is supposed to be relaxation and not a marathon. See you out there. Say hi if you see us. George & Scott Welcome are full time guides and full time fishermen on Stick Marsh/Farm 13. Our goal is to share these fantastic areas and our love for the sport. Two boats allow us to accommodate to six people. Contact us; you will be glad you did!
