By George Welcome
Fishing on the Stick Marsh/Farm13 continues to be nothing short of spectacular. As the spill way continues to flow the fish keep stacking up inside. On Friday July 29th took out the Grandson for his finale trip to the Marsh. Started out fishing the southeast side of the farm with the old faithful cub bug and only managed to catch a few fish. The pump house was running so we moved over and anchored up and started catching fish right away on Carolina rigged lizards. In the afternoon ran into the spillway and started catching fish right away. I am not sure how many we ended up with but it had to be well over 100 fish. Sunday Scott took out his girlfriend his brother, and his brother’s wife. Started out in the spillway and fished they’re for about 3hrs without a fish. Ran out and started fishing the center north south boat trail with rattletraps and cub bugs. Found a few small schools but only caught around 15 fish. 11:00 ran back into the spillway and the fish turned on when the thunderstorms started to move in. Left the lake around 12:30. Monday George took out Tim Pharr and his friend Randy. Started out in the spillway and by 9:30 they had over 60 fish. Around 10:00 they raised the gate the current started screaming, and the fish turned right off. Moved out of the spillway and ran to the pump house and fished Carolina rigged lizards. Finished the day off with over 120 fish. Tuesday George took out Greg Powell his son, and their group of friends. Decided to start out in the spillway but with no success in the spillway early we decided to move out and fish the farm. We pick up a few fish but nothing great. At around 10:30 ran back into the spillway and fished cub bugs in the outside current. Unfortunately one of our clients hooked themselves’ so we had to call it a day with around 30 fish. On Wednesday Scott took out Greg Powell and the rest of the gang for a half-day trip. Started out in the spillway and managed to catch around 15 fish on cub bugs and Carolina rigged lizards. Greg’s friend caught his first bass a 5+ lbs beauty. Ran out to the southeast side of the farm and fished cub bugs along the northeast boat trail. Found a few nice fish and missed a couple of beauties. By 12:00 the sun was really hot and the group had enough. The total for the morning was around 30 fish. Dropped the customers of and I decide to go try the spillway again. Fished from 1:00 till 6:30 and caught somewhere around 200 fish with the largest being 7.5 lbs. Two gentlemen were down from coca beach and they caught over 200 fish as well. Fish were caught on everything from Carolina rigged lizards, Rattletraps, jerk worms, and jigs. Thursday Scott took Steve Lewin out for a full day trip. Fished the spill way and it was nothing less than spectacular. Rattletraps were the bait of choice. Caught fish up to 5.8lbs and countless over 3lbs. The days total was over 200 fish and we both went home extremely sore. Friday night took out my friend Scott for a quick 2 hr. trip. They have lowered the gate even further and the current as slowed way down. Started out a little slow but we managed to catch over 50 fish.
