Early for Trout

Starting in the grass flats, the trout bite has been decent in the mornings fishing just off spoil islands and docks on the east side of the Indian River. Live and gulp shrimp on the drop-offs along with DOA glow shrimp under the docks. However, we have spent most of the time fishing structures in search of better eaters like tripletail, flounder, sheepshead, snapper and black drum. Docks along the St. Lucie River have been holding more mangrove snapper and snook compared to the Indian River where we have seen an increase with the tripletail and flounder. {%image_id=33457%} {%image_id=33458%} {%image_id=33459%} Plenty of undersized grouper, lane and mutton snappers on the structures too. We have been catching the biggest black drum of the year. Ed Flynn had a great fifteen minute fight with his first black drum topping 16 pounds.
