Fishing Report for Indian River & St. Lucie River - Offshore

Last week the weather turned in our favor and we were treated to nice seas offshore. There were some nice edges from 120 to 260 feet that were holding some dolphin. Not all gaffers but some decent school size. All one had to do was go directly east of the St. Lucie inlet and look for some debris which there was plenty of. There were some early morning goggle-eyes on the sand pile if you fished the bottom. The sailfish bite is improving and should get better each week. Most were caught on trolled ballyhoo. Some more good news is the Spanish Mackerel in Pecks Lake. We limited out in less than an hour. Just anchor near the reef, throw out a chum bag and get ready for the action. Very light tackle really adds to the fun. I fished the surf the other day and we caught some small pompano and a weakfish. The Indian River from Nettles Island north is loaded with finger mullet and being chased by trout jacks and Snook. Be sure to release the trout as the season ended on November 1st. There were some good pompano catches on Sailfish Flats and that bite will improve each day. Look for small tarpon and Snook near the St. Lucie River spillways. More later.
