Fishing Report for Indian River & St. Lucie River - Offshore

The annual sailfish tournaments are under way out of Stuart and so far they are not up to last year’s numbers. We need a good strong cold front to push the fish down from the north. The dolphin bite has been fairly decent. Look for flying fish near scattered weed which we found the other day in 130 ft. north of the inlet. Bottom fishing has been hot over 6 mile reef with some nice grouper and snapper. The Spanish mackerel are all over the place south of the inlet down to Pecks Lake. The pompano have been hit and miss inside the inlet due to warm water. The trout bite has been great with good size fish being caught and released by the power lines and Herman’s Bay. Tarpon have been seen by both big and little Mud Creeks pounding the plentiful mullet. The north fork of the St. Lucie is loaded with finger mullet and are being attacked every night by jacks and snook. Both live bait and top water plugs are doing the trick. More later.
