Fishing Report for Indian River & St. Lucie River - Offshore

There is plenty of bait outside of the St. Lucie inlet and with it is a mixed bag of fish. Kings can be caught near the bait pods. Sails were in fifty feet but moved out further when the water temperature dropped into the sixties in close. Several cobia have also been caught and will increase in intensity as the big rays move through the area. We have seen some leaping out of the water the past couple of times out. We have been catching dolphin any where from eighty to one hundred and forty feet in scattered weed and edges. The bottom bite on the reefs has been improving especially north of the inlet. Bluefish are in the surf along with Spanish mackerel. The mackerel bite is still plentiful down south at Peck’s Lake. We loaded up there the other day. Snook fishing at the bridges has been very good on pinfish and red tailed hawks. Live greenies with a jig headed hook will also produce well. Black drum are also at the bridges. Live shrimp are the best bet. The trout bite has vastly improved in the Indian River near the power lines. An occasional redfish can be taken also. The inlet is still being dredged so it is imperative that you slow down and follow the markers carefully. Yield to the bigger boats because the channel is not wide enough for two lane traffic.
