Fishing Report for Indian River & St. Lucie River - Offshore

The offshore fishing out of Stuart has been red hot the past couple of weeks. The dolphin are being caught just about everywhere from eighty feet out. They are being caught trolling ballyhoo and drifting live baits. Live bait has been a little hard to come by so be prepared and have some frozen bait on hand. There are still a few sails being caught and the king mackerel bite is beginning to take off in forty feet and out. Amberjack are patrolling the wrecks and can be caught on live herring or a butterfly jig. If you have not tried the butterfly jigs yet, I suggest you do. We have caught a variety of fish from cobia to grouper on these things Seven to nine ounce works best in the deeper waters. Big jacks are up and down the beach and some permit are beginning to make their way through. The bridges in both rivers have been hot on the outgoing daytime tide. Pompano, jacks, ladyfish and black drum are being caught on live shrimp fished with a one eighth ounce jig head. An occasional keeper snook are being boated as well. For the first time in a while, seatrout are being taken near the Palm City and Roosevelt Bridges and some pompano are skipping in the north fork of the St. Lucie River.
