Fishing Report for Indian River & St. Lucie River - Offshore

If kings are your game, now is the time to limit out on them off of the St. Lucie inlet. Sardines are all over the sandpile northeast of the inlet. Just load up on them and look for the commercial boats are and you will find the kings. We have limited out every trip the past week. There have also been schools of big rays filtering food in the same area and several cobia have been found below them along with numerous remora. The key is to pitch a bait or an eel like lure ahead of the rays and hope for a cobia to pick it up. We saw several caught this way. We had a sailfish in this area also which took a live sardine on light tackle. We also lost several kings to the porpoise as they follow the boat waiting for us to hook up. A hooked king is an easy meal for these smart predators. Tarpon are rolling along the beach and a few have been hooked near Bath Tub Beach. Bonita and big jacks round out the near shore bite. The offshore has not fared as well as the dolphin bite has slowed up considerably. Bottom fishermen have been reporting a good snapper bite on the reefs and wrecks. The trout fishing in the Indian River has taken off. A fishing buddy of mine reported that he had the best day in years using mirro lures north of the Jensen Beach causeway. We saw tarpon rolling near the Roosevelt Bridge and heard of some being caught there. The best bet for now is live baiting near shore on any given day, so get out there and enjoy it. More later.
