We were able to get a good bottom trip in the other day and we returned with a lot of meat for the table. We headed south out of the inlet and stopped at Peck's Lake where we quickly put a dozen Spanish mackerel and two pompano in the box. The fish were in ten feet of water just off the beach. We then went further south to the Loran Tower and seventy feet deep. The first drop produced a double header of lane snapper and it just got better. We caught some big beeliners that had to be released. We caught five red grouper that also had to be released. We also had a cobia on a chicken rig that was one inch short. We caught about a dozen nice sized triggerfish several muttons and a load of porgies. Everyone went home with some nice fillets. The sailfish and dolphin bite has tapered off. They are still being caught but not in the numbers of the previous week. Spanish mackerel and blue fish are near the beaches and just inside the inlet on the incoming tide. The pompano bite went red hot last weekend by the Stuart Causeway. Dozens of boats were crowded in the area near Sailfish Flats. On a calm day they can also be caught outside the inlet near Bathtub Beach and inside by the Crossroads. More later.
