Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Cold upwellings over the past two weeks had surf temperatures in the sixties. We caught threadfin herring one morning in five feet of water and they were cold to the touch. However they made great baits and hooked a first sailfish for a buddy of mine near the sandpile. We were also hounded by barracuda and bonita. On another trip, we fished a rubble spot and hooked amberjacks on almost every drop using two and four ounce jigs. Some fish were so big that we were breaking fifty pound leader. There are plenty of tarpon just north of the inlet in the early hours chasing bait. Further offshore on Push Button Hill, blackfin tuna have been fairly consistent but not in great numbers. The dolphin bite is still sporadic but kings are being caught regularly. There are plenty of catch and release snook around the inlet inside and out. We saw some tarpon hookups at the crossroads when boat traffic isn't so heavy. There are plenty of jacks and lady fish in the river and some croaker and black drum at the bridges. More later.
