Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Since my last report two weeks ago, the winds have blown fifteen to twenty miles per hour almost every day. Tropical Storm Nicole just blew by us and north winds are in the forecast for next week. Last weekend had the only fishable days and the boats that got out were treated to a great dolphin bite. There were a lot of fish caught in the twenty to thirty pound range in sixty to one hundred feet of water straight out of the St. Lucie Inlet. The bottom fishing was also very good for the two days with a variety of snapper, sea bass, and porgies. The mullet run is in full force but it has been too rough for surf fisherman to take advantage of it. The bridges are holding plenty of snook and black drum and tarpon are feeding on the mullet schools in the St Lucie River around Harbor Ridge. The mullet are so thick in the canals on the north fork of the St. Lucie, that you can catch a dozen on every cast of your net. We are looking forward to calmer seas and some great fishing by the end of next week. More later.
