Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

The cobia bite remained red hot last week as fish were caught at the Sandpile and the Bull Shark Barge. We had a late start on a trip last week and as we passed Sandsprit Park we saw bait in the water all the way up to the Crossroads. We loaded up on threadfin herring and a few sardines. We headed out the inlet to the crowd of boats at the Sandpile. We saw a couple of boats hooked up and we knew they were fighting cobia by the way their rods were bent. It was not long before we hooked up and had a fish next to the boat. We did not want to gaff it because we were not sure it was a keeper. We netted it which is not an easy thing to do because cobia are one of the toughest fish to get in the boat. It was a keeper by two inches. We boated another bigger one about an hour later and headed home. We found some kings in about sixty feet due east of the Sandpile. The area was loaded with sardines and the kings were slashing through them. We also had a decent trip to the Loran Tower ledges where we were able to boat some vermillion and porgy even though conditions were somewhat rough. The dolphin bite continues to get better but the fish are still wide spread. Fishing inside the inlet, we caught blue runners, jacks, and more lady fish than you could ever want.
