The entire bay is teaming with bait! Large schools of threadfins are blanketing the water's surface. A welcomed an irresistible temptation to hungry pelagics and dive bombing birds, but what does this mean to the angler? Well, summer a coarse and with it opportunity. Warmer wheather means more bait and more bait means more fish. {%image_id=5042%} This week my clients and myself had a blast chasing schools of bontia during slack tides. The bonita are hot and heavy on acre size schools of bait. Just look for busting water, motor out to it and cast a jig or lure(a 3/8 oz. jig w/a pumpkin seed bass assasin or blk.& silver Zorra Spook work well.) The type of lure is not as important as the retrive. Bonita are lighting fast like most pelagics, so your retrival must be fast as well and your drag cant be set to tight. Once you hook up, hold on and prepare for a fight. Although "Little Tunney" may be little in stature he's a heavy weight at hart. {%image_id=5043%} During the slack tide we have been chasing Bonita, but when its moving, tarpon has been the target. The bite has been hot around the Skyway Bridge and neighboring shipping channels. Look for good action at Egmont Key as well. {%image_id=5040%}{%image_id=5041%} Till next week, have a quality day on the water. capt. Sean
