Cooler Water Temperatures Postpone Spring Species

Spring is finally getting closer! It's been cooler than normal this time of year, with water temperatures in the low 60's. Some of the fish we normally catch in the beginning of March are just now starting to show up, like: kingfish, spanish mackerel and cobia. The red grouper fishery has also just reopened. {%image_id=32515%} April and May are two of the best months of the year to fish here on Florida's West coast. You can slow troll for kingfish and spanish mackerel with live baits or fish the bottom for grouper and gray snapper – both will give you a tough fight and are excellent table fare. The Gulf of Mexico near Tampa provides many opportunities to stock your freezer with lots of tasty fish. Whatever your quarry, it will be lots of fun for the whole family. Capt.
