Sheepies Biting In Tampa Bay!

January's near freezing water temperatures are the cause of a major fish kill through out the state.{%image_id=13617%} There can be no arguement that snook, tarpon, and other game fish as well as bait fish have taken a hard hit. Just how bad it really is and how long it till take for fish populations to fully recover; Only God Knows. {%image_id=13616%} The good news is the sheephead bite is on and boy-o, it's a good one. I fished the South shore yesterday with Tampa Firefighter, Ricahrd Salario, and my fiberglass guy Tim Childress. {%image_id=13612%} We put in at Cockroach around noon, giving it time to warm up. After surveying the area for dead snook and other fish, which were regretably plentiful, we pulled up on a good sheephead spot with a lot of structure. Frozen shrimp, number 4 split shot, and 1/0 EUPRO j-hook proved deadly for any goat within casting distance. {%image_id=13614%} Markers around the South shore channels also held plenty of sheepies. There were some smaller fish in groups of 50-200 and we did have to weed through a few shorts, but the keepers averaged 2.5-5lbs. We fished until we ran out of bait and left them biting. {%image_id=13613%} So, get out there and get-r-done or book a trip and I'll show you how. Till next time, have a safe and quality day on the water. Capt Sean "Fishing Like a Pro" with EUPRO WWW.FISHINGWITHSHAMROCK.COM
