Alot of folks have been asking me when are the tarpon going to be at the Skyway ? Well I don't think they ever truly left this year. The "Way" holds some resident tarpon year round. However, this is the first year that I can recall in which I recieved legitamate reports of anglers jumping tarpon all twelve months of the year. This can probably be contributed to the constant supply of sardines at the bridge and the mild winter we experienced this year and last. {%image_id=4768%} The poons are rolling at the Skyway! During a recent scouting trip aboard the Shady Shamrock capt. Jeremy Heimes a accompanied me to see if we could get on a few poons. {%image_id=4770%}{%image_id=4771%} Although, we didn't slay them that day, we did manage to boat a few on the morning's incomming tide. The fish we did catch were small in the 40-65 lbs. range but, put up a good fight. {%image_id=4772%} Thread fins seemed to be the ticket when free- lined up current of rolling poons. Although, the fish we landed were not the big ones we seeked. We did spot quite a few fish in the 80-120 range and guess what guys? They're only going to get bigger and more plentiful1! Just wait for the summer's hill tides to come and hit the bridges. You won't be disappointed. Have a safe and quality day on the water capt. Sean.
