Saturday morning started with great promise, the rain was moving away, Tampa Bay was nearly flat calm making the run to the Skyway Bridge a breeze. One toss of the net blacked out the live well with perfect baits. Next stop Ft Desoto pick up our clients. Morning goal was to get on the outstanding Mackerel and Bonita bite off St Pete beach. Mother Nature and a brisk North West wind made us quickly change gears. We ran to the eastern side of Tampa Bay to get on the Snook and Redfish action. First couple of spots resulted in only catfish and a lost snook. We were fly lining live baits into the mangroves without allot of success. We then switched floats above the baits hoping to keep them out of the sea grass. Again not much success. We relocated further north finally getting on some Snook and Jack action. The bite was ok not great, we lost several nice snook. Chris hooked a nice snook that ran right into the mangroves before he knew what happened. Chris still had the fish on so we went in after the snook. I wish I had a picture as all I could see were First Mate Chris and our client Chris on the bow in a maze of mangroves trying to save the fish. As is often the case with big snook the snook won. Best part of the day for me was watching a father and sons spend a day on the water together. Lou Chris and Lou were a pleasure to have onboard. Look for better tides later this week to fire up the snook and redfish bite plus more Kingfish, Mackerel and Bonita action off our beaches.
