Slow Start, Good Finish. Joe called me about a trip for he and his old high school buddies. They are all anglers so I set out a game plan to chase after redfish. My favorite shallow water game fish. In hind sight, I probably should have had a different game plan. I had the guys meet me in New Port Richey to go after some of my pet reds. When we got to the spot, we found them but they were on the move and shortly after I saw them they were gone. Joe said that they would be interested in catching whatever pulled on the line so we switched gears and headed South. I probably should have set that as a game plan first. I could have had them meet me closer to some productive trout waters. Because of switching gears we had to make a long run to the spoil islands and when we got there we caught a few fish but they weren't as big as they had been recently. After everybody had at least hooked up I asked if they were interested in trying for redfish again. Everybody said sure so I ran to a spot close by that had produced quality fish last week. Someone was sitting on the spot but luckily they didn't stay long. When we had a chance to move in it only took a few minutes to hook up on the first keeper redfish. After everybody had landed one, I asked if anybody was interested in trout fishing again and they all said, "no". They liked the pull and fight of the redfish. We didn't kill them today but considering the slow tide today we didn't finish up the day too bad. Everybody got in the game. We caught all our redfish on pinfish under a cork. The fish were mixed in with milling mullet and following the tide in towards the shore.
