Fall is in the air

Fall appears to be on the way. Our first cold front just made it down, although very mild the morning air is cool and refreshing. The bait migration is almost in full effect. Schools of smaller pilchards and glass minniws are flowing down the beaches and outside points. Schools of mullet are gathering as well and not going unnoticed. Certain points and inlets. you can find big tarpon smashing the mullet as they pass through. On the beach you'll see the snook bunching the small pilchards against the shorelines then schooling up and wiping them out. Throw in more schools of ravenous 5-10 pound jacks and the water is frothing with action. I'm starting to see a good number of redfish mixed in under the bait, and up north, the reds are schooling up for the spawn. Teper and I have been averaging reds in the 12-18 pound range on flies and plugs. Fish can be seen humping up the water, pushing across numerous flats. Great time of year to be a fisherman, or better yet a local in a sleepy summer town. No one is on the water and there is so many scenarios to pick from.
