Spring is here!

Spring is in the air and everyone is getting excited. The winds come and go, and on the days its calm the fishing can be world class. Calm days and clean water provides endless options, from inshore to offshore! Inshore at the moment during the winds, the snook are the number one request for the month, Reason being you can find them in the protected coves from the wind and its the last month you can keep the tastiest fish you can bring home for dinner. The snook are cooperating very well and feeding aggressively, fateeneing up for the upcoming spawn. Flies or artificial lure and taking fish of all sizes. Yesterday, young angler Bo Climber 14 years old caught and landed his biggest snook on fly, a respectable 34 inch fish on a mullet pattern fly. Bo can cast as good as anyone for his age, and better than most of my older clients! On the calm days, its all about the tarpon! They are moving in as the waters warm, and giving anglers plenty of shots. Most fish ranging from 50 - 120 pounds so far. Last week I took a busmans holiday with good buddy Dave Teper and we jumped 4 fish from 50 -120 pounds landing only the smaller fish. Fish were cooperating and eating well presented cast. Dave is a world class angler and can get the job done in any condition. Fly patterns does not seem to matter, as long as it is presented right the first cast! Redfish are around as well as trout, so achieving the grand slam is possible any given time. These next two months are the best chances to complete the accomplishment. Offshore and along the beaches are alive with action as well. Permit and cobia gain the spotlight for most anglers. A live crab will catch both. Kingfish are still around screaming drags for anyone targeting the fast fish. Snapper and grouper are also on the ledges taking cut and live bait.
