This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon from Spotted Tail, updated 10/7 Outstanding Catch Dept.- Yesterday I had the pleasure of fishing the Birthday Boy, 16 year old Andy Edwards of Charleston, SC. His outstanding catch was a 17 pound tripletail that we found under some debris several miles out in the Atlantic. His and his Dad had never even heard of these fish before. To get a 17 pounder- Whoa! Nice catch! Happy birthday, Andy! If you sightfish you have not been having lots of good days lately. Friday wasn't bad. I went out looking around in the Indian River and saw reds, trout, snook, and tarpon, but in spite of all the bait around the fish weren't eating too good and I only got one red. On Thursday I fished flycaster Eric Peterson from Michigan. Rain, overcast, and wind, the same story. We saw quite a few fish, including jacks, redfish, tarpon, and especially snook, in the Indian River. Eric caught a 22" trout at a culvert and hooked a tarpon and a bunch of ladyfish. It was a better day than I expected. Yesterday the mullet were thick along the beach. Brian Clancy and I did a two boat charter with Marshall Rice and three generations of Edwards- Joe, Mike, and Andy. Between us we got 2 species of catfish, a couple of rays, ladyfish, bluefish, jacks, Spanish mackerel, jumped a tarpon, had a couple of sharks cut us off, and got several tripletail. A very entertaining and enjoyable day. I do love the mullet run! Fishing is great and I love my work! Capt. John Kumiski www.spottedtail.com
