This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon from Spotted Tail, updated 11/11 Last Friday Karl Dienst and I went out of Port Canaveral hoping to find some tripletail and/or cobia. A strong north wind developed and we couldn't get out due to rough seas. Behind the tip of Cape Canaveral there was a pretty good blitz of Spanish mackerel going on, fish flying out of the water everyplace. We got a bunch on flies and small spinning lures such as the DOA TerrorEyz. The fish gradually faded out and we returned to Port. Tuesday I went out scouting by myself. Lots of single reds and layed up trout (many big ones) all up the east side of the Mosquito Lagoon. While last week I reported that the water level was dropping I didn't notice any change this week. It's still high, although again quite clear in most places. Yesterday I fished Dr. George Yarko and Dr. George Angulo in the Mosquito Lagoon. Oh yes, it was good. They had at least eight double hookups and put a couple of dozen reds to 32 inches into the boat. I really need to go up into the no motor zone. it's that time of year for the fishing up there to just explode. Fishing is great and I love my work! Capt. John Kumiski www.spottedtail.com
