Indian River Lagoon & Banana River

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon from Spotted Tail, updated 10/5 My apologies to those who enjoy my reports. I haven't been fishing as much as I would like. God bless America, and God bless the victims, their families, and their friends. In a sense we are all victims. Water levels in the lagoon system are quite high, making sight fishing difficult unless you find clean water and good light. Friday last I fished Dr. George Yarko of Orlando, in the Indian River. George had himself quite a day, catching a 16 pound red, a four pound trout, a five pound snook, and a 10 pound tarpon. He also got a bunch of big ladyfish. Indian River grand slams are fairly rare, so great going, George! Saturday we had our annual Kids Fishing Day. In my boat fishing was slow- we got a dink trout, a large sailcat ("Man, that thing is UGLY!" said Alexis). But some other boats did quite well. We all fished in the Indian River. Tuesday Herb and Ben Brown, a father/son team from Kentucky, teamed up to get four reds and a nice trout between them, sightfishing in the Mosquito Lagoon. For Herb it was his first two fish on fly in saltwater. Yesterday Mark Marsh and his friend Randy sight fished the Mosquito Lagoon and got five reds, three on fly and two on jerk baits. We saw quite a few fish but they didn't want to eat very much. Fishing is great, and I love my work! Capt. John Kumiski www.spottedtail.com
