A week of rain brought South West Florida a much needed cool down and great fishing. Redfish showed up in big numbers from Ft Myers beach all the way through Pine Island sound. If you were willing to stand in the rain and tough it out, redfish up to 32 inches were there for the taking. Snook fishing is still very good and live bait continues to be your best bet. Should you not be able to catch live bait, cut baits like mullet or lady fish will work just fine. A good rule of thumb when cut baiting is to give it about 30 minutes before moving on allowing the current time to get the smell out. Trout fishing has been great in 3-5 feet of water over grass. Trout love live shrimp on a popping cork, or just keep a DOA deadly combo in your tackle box and you'll do just fine. Mangrove snapper fishing continues to be strong with inshore fish up to 14 inches.
