Boiling water on Lake Oconee
Lake Oconee, georgia

Water is clear Water temp is boiling! As you can tell by the water temp, we have entered into the dreaded dog days of summer. This time of year is just horrible on the stripers and hybrids. They go deep and get lethargic and it is a challenge to go out and have a good day of fishing. However there is always a silver lining behind every cloud, and this one comes in the form of the tailrace at the base of Wallace Dam. When the dam is generating the stripers will run up in the surf, where the cool, bait filled water is coming out. Over the past few weeks the bite has been off the chain down there. You can fish live bait or artificials and do very well. Most of the fish you will be catching are in the 3 to 7 pound range, but when they get down in the current, you think you have a 20 pounder. This bite should continue well into the summer. Give me a call if you want to chase them. Tight Lines Doug
