Getting Hot

Smith Lake

May 20th, 2011 Fishing 24-7 Guide Service on Smith Lake Mike Walker With the cool days behind us, this week's low is 68 degrees.  We have to catch the big ones early or wait ‘til the sun is going down.  Time to think about sun protection; everybody who knows me is use to seeing me wear a Buff to protect my head, neck and face from the damaging UV rays.  This week's weather starts my summer routine of packing my boat with SPF50 sunscreen, long sleeves in the morning, and a Buff to protect my head. As the day warms up, I lose the long sleeves, grab the SPF50 and keep on going.  As the day goes on, I use the Buff as a head and neck shield and pour water on it off and on all day to keep cool. That's enough about sun protection. Now let's talk fishing.  I took Chris Townsend out today and we had to work for it. We caught about 30 fish, none over 2 1/2 pounds. We threw everything I had to try to get bigger fish to bite with no luck. Some days you can't figure it out and today was one of those days.  We ended up putting 30 crappie and 30 bream in the box. So all in all it was a good day.  Plenty of action and good times.
