Spring is slowly giving way towards more summer like weather and the fishing is heating up right along with the water. The King and Spanish Mackerel bite is happening. Still sporatic, but getting better each day. I did catch my first hardtail of the season today, a good sign and excellent for getting those smoker kings. Still been filling the box with plenty of vermillion snappers and this afternoon caught half dozen scamp groupers. The triggerfish we've been getting lately, thankfully, have at least been a quarter inch on the legal side instead of the more common quarter inch undersize. The Red Snapper bite is red hot and now less than 3 weeks till season opens. For the time being it sure hurts to continue to have to throw back fish pictured below, but catching them is still alot of fun. Haven't had too many days allowing us to get out to deeper waters and chase red groupers, but when we have been able to, we've got 'em. This one a shark got the good part.
