After waiting for what has seemed like all year (well, yes, I guess it has been all year) Red Snappers finally open tomorrow. The so called threatened species has been everywhere making it difficult to fish for anything else. Here's a couple we caught and threw back in less than 100 ft. of water on half day trips this week while trying to grouper fish. {%image_id=10012%} This one may not look big but the fellow holding him is 6'7' and close to 300#. The snapper weighed 18# ! {%image_id=10013%} This fellow is more about my size- His fish weighed 25#! We should have some fantastic catches on snappers the next couple weeks ! Even with Snappers closed we have had some good looking boards the past week. The weather has been great and I have had the pleasure of taking some long time returning anglers that have gotten past the learning curve of circle hook fishing. {%image_id=10014%} This was the first time out for these folks but they were quick learners and were already taking about the next trip. {%image_id=10015%} These folks have fished with me for several years and made it to the majors this trip with as many groupers landed as missed on a half day. We threw back quite a few shorts as well as what we kept. {%image_id=10016%} Another returning crew. Not a bunch in quantity but Mom didn't fish and Dad helped his younger son as much as he fished himself. Some quality critters for really having 2 folks fishin'! The big King was 30# I just hope I can talk my trip out of one snapper filler tomorrow so I can make some ceviche'. I can almost taste it now! See you on the water! Capt Larry Pentel
