On Saturday morning we had first-timers, Everett Shaw and Connie Elkinson of Stamford. We headed for the Norwalk Islands and had immediate action with bluefish on the surface, during which we boated blues and striped bass--using imitation sand eels on jig heads. When things slowed down, we made our way toward Westport and found more striped bass and bluefish that we brought in on tube & worm rigs. Sunday's trip included another group of first-time "My Bonnie" fishermen--all from Fairfield: Jeff Wade, Jason Lesizza and Joe Pymm. The action was very much as it was on Saturday, with surface blues 3-5 lbs, brought in on Gulp! sand eel lures. We then went in pursuit of stripers, and the boys did well with bass up to 27", caught on tube & worm, around Compo Beach. On Monday morning we were part of a two-boat trip with Capt. Roger Gendron out of Saugatuck. We both had a party of three aboard--competing with each other. We don't want to boast, but our boat was high hook in all categories--largest fish, most fish, and most species caught! Among the catch were many blues and a keeper bass, with some of the fish being taken home for an evening barbecue for everyone. It was a lot of fun for all concerned.
