It's Still February...It's Still Winter A mild January had my hopes up for an early spring, but February has been a steady flow of cold fronts that have interfered with my fishing. We were getting the fronts about every three days for most of the month. The last one is still hanging around and should push through over the weekend. This time of year is a real challenge to plan trips in advance. You might get a warm sunny day in the 70's, or it might be warm and rainy, or it might be rainy and cold, or it might be windy and freezing cold. The fish we are catching are still in about 15 feet of water in the main river channel. The specks are in the 14" to 16" range with an occasional 17" to 20" surprise. We keep checking the shallow patterns and are picking up one or two here and there, but it's not quite time for the shallow waters to produce good numbers.
