Speckled Trout Running Thick Specks are plentiful in the main river especially at the mouths of the lakes and bayous. We are still using cocohoe jigs to catch most of them. We are mostly fishing the jig under a popping cork since that seems to produce more strikes, but we do take the cork off occasionally when fishing some deeper holes. There are a lot of undersized trout in these schools. Still we put plenty in the box though. Most of the keepers are running 14 to 16 inches. You will occasionally find a 3 to 5 pounder mixed in. We aren't finding many redfish, but to be fair, we don't look for them much when the specks are so thick. The reds we are catching just happen along while we are fishing the specks. The flounder are making their final run down the river before most of them move out into open water. If you target the flounder you can catch a good number of them. That should last another week or two. The colder weather will start driving the fish deeper soon, but for now we are fishing shallow patterns mostly with a lot of success.
