White Trout & Ground Mullet Are Swarming The Reefs!

Picked up a last minute trip on Saturday, and my guests were Harold Klausner, Mark Miller, and Clay Pfertsh from Colorado. {%image_id=14596%} Started out on an inshore reef waiting to see what the weather was going to do, but the bite was very good just minutes from the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor. White trout and ground mullet dominated the bite, but the guys really got a kick out of catching the hard-fighting stingrays. {%image_id=14598%} Late in the day made a quick run out to the barrier islands, but there was a 5 foot surf rolling in, and I decided not to try and anchor up on the high surf. Wanted to see if that massive sheepshead spawn was still on, but it wasn,t worth the risk of fishing that big surf. {%image_id=14516%} Instead, ran inside the island, anchored up, and the guys proceeded to catch a white trout and ground mullet on every cast, or should I say vertical drop to the bottom. Really fast fish catching action! {%image_id=14597%} The guys from Colorado never experienced such fast fish catching in thier lives, and I had to drag them out of the fish. Made the guys start throwing them back after a while, but they easily put 120 in the box, and a quick stop near the harbor led to a couple of nice flounders to finish off the outing. No big fish today, but did see Spanish mackerel and bonito at the islands, and the water was up to 65 degrees. With a bit more southerly flow look for the fishing to explode with all sorts of fish including Florida pompano, Spanish mackerel, cobia, sharks, and tripletail. By the way, if someone wants to set up a chumming trip on the outer beaches of the barrier islands it can be arranged, and while chumming for cobia other by catch species like jack crevalles, bull redfish, and sharks often occur. Hey, the fishing is "on" here in south Mississippi, so be sure to book your next fishing adventure aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, and bring along the kids too. {%image_id=14517%} Jack crevalles and Florida pompano are beginning to show up too, and that's a sign of great fishing adventures to come.
