Montana fly fishing report

Bozeman

Montana fly fishing slowing down now that a large winter storm has settled in. We are at the tail end of our autumn fishing pattern and will now revert to our wintertime fishing mode. Trout will begin packing into slower and deeper runs. Fishing in the mornings is not productive, stick to the afternoons when temps rise. The best fishing is generally noon to 4pm. Midges can sometimes bring fish to the surface on a warm and sunny day, but nymphing will produce the best results. Wade fishing generally outproduces float fishing. It is best to stick to just one or two good runs that hold fish and work them hard since they may have over a hundred fish. Spring creeks are also a great bet with the elevated water temps.
