Naples, FL - Fishing Report

Naples

February 21, 2008 Fishing continues to stay strong in the Naples and Marco area. The past week I have been focusing on snook in and around the passes and docks in the Naples Bay. Bait of choice is freelined pilchards fished on 3/0 Owner circle hooks. Mixed in with the snook are big jacks, jewfish, gags, and some nice snapper. Pompano fishing has also picked up around Marco Island and Isle Capri. Ive been having good success on the incoming tide fishing 1/4 oz. Monte Tube Jigs tipped with shrimp. There have also been some nice mackeral and bluefish to fill the the gaps between pompano bites. Trout seem to be spreading out with the water temps approaching 80 again. Water temps this week have been between 73-77 and seem to have the trout confused. Still finding some small ones in the deeper channels, just not like last month. The nearshore wrecks should begin to heat up with the warming water and bait so thick. I think the big kingfish should be knocking on the door any day now. My bait of choice is big blue runners or bluefish slow trolled on stinger rigs. Spanish mackeral are on some of the wrecks already just not in great numbers or size yet. Capt. Chris
