The early fall has brought on a great bite on the nearshore reefs and wrecks outside of Port Royal Sound and off the beach at Hilton Head. Huge schools of Weakfish have moved onto the structure, and will readily take a variety of both live and artificial baits. Gulp! swimming mullet on a 3/4 ounce bucktail are a sure bet. My clients caught over 300 hundred Weakfish in the last 4 weeks using this technique. And along with the Weakfish, Redfish, Flounder, Black sea bass, and Bluefish have also been on the bite. A mixed bag is almost a given on any day. The Redfish have been big out there for the most part, with my largest hitting the boga scale at 28 pounds. That is a lot of fish on a 3000 series spinning reel and a 7 ft medium light spinning rod! Clean water and calm seas, with a little current running, is the key to happiness on the reefs. Tight lines to you.
