Talk about some weather! Thankfully most of the heavy snow missed us here, but there has been plenty of rain and this will have a major effect on the local stream fishing right through the weekend. The Salmon River is at 1,800cfs with additional run-off. It will be tough going for bank anglers this week, so I suggest fishing the small creeks or concentrate your efforts on the lakeshore at the mouths of the creeks. Worms and eggs have been the top producers and they will continue to take the majority of fish in the upcoming weeks. I hope I am wrong but I think the river will get real big in the next week with the warm weather finally in the forecast. The lake fishing is just getting started as boaters are finding brown trout trolling along the shore in 6-8 ft. of water, primarily at the mouths of the tributaries. Stickbaits and small spoons in black and silver are working the best. Troll slow and concentrate your efforts in and around the warmest water. I have good reports from boaters extending from the mouth of the salmon river all the way to Niagara. Looks like it is breaking wide open!! The hatchery at Altmar is done collecting it’s annual 2 million steelhead eggs. They have an abundance of fish in the tanks, raceway and the brook. Fran Verdoliva, told me it is loaded with fish. Well guess what? They all have to drop sooner or later and when they do, look out! Still plugging away each day taking a few fish on each trip. I did hit them good on Sunday as we hooked 10 and landed five. Here are some pics from the last few days. Fred Wildman with one of the many fish he has taken with me. New steelheader Peter from Long Island with the largest of the day Doug Seale with a nice brown trout Dad and father in law Paul Seale with number five for the day. What was I doing with three guys in my boat?? Jay Richler with one of six fish we hooked today. I just had April 26 and 30 open up.This will be prime time if anyone wants them. See you out there.
