March 09, 2012

Today is Tuesday March 6, 2012. We still seem to be in that up and down cycle of temperatures here in Western New York. This past weekend we experienced some of the coldest and windiest weather of the Winter season. The temperatures for the rest of the week range from 38 to 60 degrees for the highs and rain forecast from 5% to 70%, welcome to the weather in Western New York. The fishing in our Orleans County tributaries however has been much more stable than the weather. Oak Orchard River and both Johnson and Marsh Creeks are reporting good catches of Steelhead/Rainbow trout, some Brown trout and a occasional Chinook salmon. Baits mentioned are Egg Sacs, Night Crawlers, wax worms, Mousees and a broad variety of flies. Perch fishing at the bridges still seems to be on and off, but most are using minnows. There has been a report of Bluegills being taken on Lake Alice around the Otter creek area. The long range prediction for next week is warmer and more stable weather which should spur on some better and more consistent fishing. Let's make every day a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
