January 09, 2013

Today is Wednesday, January 9, 2013. In the past week or so we have had an individual go thru the ice on Otter Creek and gentlemen lose his footing in the "Oak". Both are OK but it just points up the necessity of being extremely careful when fishing either on the ice or in moving water during the winter. The weather for the rest of the week is on a warming trend with temperatures in the mid 50's by the weekend. Rain is also predicted for Friday which should contribute to water levels on the rise in all of the tributaries within Orleans County. With this comes the chance for water clarity to reach and exceed the "Stained" level. Fishermen are still catching a good mix of both Brown and Steelhead/Rainbow trout and this upcoming weather pattern should bring in some fresh fish. Most fishermen are using egg sacs, Woolie Buggers or Nymphs that are either plain or tipped with wax worms and spikes, or just wax worms or spikes by themselves. At the "Point" some are fishing for Perch in the open waters with various levels of success. Sport Show season is upon us and this weekend Orleans County will be at the Garden State Outdoors Show in Edison, New Jersey, stop by and say hello. Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
