July 17, 2013

Today is Wednesday July 17, 2013. Hot and humid weather with no rainfall has been the norm for the past several days. Weather will remain the same until Saturday when there is a 60% chance of rain and a cool down. On Lake Ontario fishing has been good but very scattered. Someday this weather may settle down and the lake will get a chance to set up. Magic numbers seem to be anywhere between the 26 line and the fence with depths being reported from 40 feet to below 100 feet. The same can be said on what are the most active baits, for each person you talk to will tell you something different. The only thing that seems to be consistent is that everyone is catching fish. The Erie Canal Fishing Derby ended this past Saturday, July 14th, but the awards ceremony will not be held until Sunday July 21st at 3PM located at the Gasport Fire Company. On the inland waters of Orleans County, water levels are still slightly higher than normal but water clarity is improving. These conditions should also help the fishing to improve. Bass and Northern Pike seem to be active on all of the inland waters. Perch are being taken on Lake Ontario on the west side of the point. From the 2013 Ultimate Fishing Town USA, let's make every day and great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
