Oct 12th to 15th, 2008 Overall Catch Success Rate 95% BILLFISH: Well our report is much shorter this week due to the port being closed for a couple of days due to the proximity of Hurricane Norberto, which thankfully left Cabo unscathed. After the port being closed for two days, bait was very scarce as the bait had been unable to fish; so for the first couple of days boats caught more dorado than anything else. As the week progressed though we started to see the marlin bit become more consistent and it was on the last day of this report that we saw the best catches. "La Brisa" released seven striped marlin and boated three dorado for a group from Finland headed up by Antti Vuorinen This same day " Rebecca" kept Dave Whitmoyer from San Diego and Gary Boone busy, releasing three striped marlin, two sailfish and boating seven dorado. "Valerie" had another group from Finland and release five stripers and got six dorado for the team headed up by Auvo Tolvola. "Yahoo" also did very well this day with four marlin & two sailfish released, plus five dorado for C Haagan and friends from Holland. Pretty much all these fish were caught at the Golden Gate on the Pacific. Our billfish catch rate was forty nine percent, quite a drop from last week, but we know it will rebound very quickly. As we end this report, the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament is underway with a total of 53 entries OTHER SPECIES: With the water stirred up a bit and a light rain, we saw more dorado than marlin, besides they weren't fussy and would take lures or bait. Thirty three percent of charters caught between one and nine fish with the average weight between 20 and 35 lbs. There was one exception which was a huge 60 lb fish caught at San Jaime, aboard "Adriana" by Jim August from Portland, Oregon. Pisces anglers totaled one hundred and forty dorado. Yellow fin tuna was very slow, in fact just two of our boats caught tuna. Once again "Bottom Line" produced the goods and we wouldn't be surprised to see this boat win the tuna tournament in November – they caught two large yellowfins just outside the Golden Gate, a 90 lb and 160 lb fish for a group from Colorado. Just one small wahoo this week, barely worth a mention at 25 lbs. Other than these there were just a few skipjacks and bonitas. LOCATION: Golden Gate, San Jaime, Los Arcos. WEATHER CONDITIONS: Picture perfect now, but the port was closed on Friday and Saturday (even though seas were fishable Friday in our opinion).
