Oak Orchard

Lake Ontario

Today is Monday March 19, 2012. The warm spring like weather of the past week has really turned the fishing up a notch or two. Brown trout have pretty well vacated their winter haunts and taken to the near shore waters of Lake Ontario. Those who are pier fishing or fishing in small boats close to the shore of Lake Ontario are doing exceptionally well using flutter spoons and stick baits. Meanwhile on the tributaries within Orleans County the Steelhead/Rainbow trout fishing is starting to wane, signaled by the arrival of Suckers in our waters. One exception is Johnson Creek in Lyndonville. Steelhead/Rainbow trout have been seen jumping the falls at the Lyndonville Dam and good catches are still being reported. Perch fishing on Oak Orchard River has really improved from the bridges area all the way to the point. On Lake Alice good catches of Bluegill and Crappie are being taken at both the Waterport and Kenyonville Bridges. Glenwood Lake is reporting spotty Crappie but that should greatly improve with the warmer weather. Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
