Oak Orchard

Lake Ontario

Today is Monday December 12, 2011. Well here we are in the second full week of December and the only place anyone in Orleans County is Ice fishing is in their freezer. With the mid week temperatures predicted to be in the low 50's, I wouldn't be breaking out the ice fishing gear yet. Fishing on the open waters of the tributaries within Orleans County is at very good to exceptional level for Brown trout, Coho salmon and Steelhead/Rainbow trout fishing. The delayed release of water from the Erie Canal and the rains that we have had over the past week or so is keeping the water levels of all of our tributaries at good to slightly above level. Water clarity remains at a slightly stained state which makes for tremendous tributary fishing. The mid week prediction of more rain means that this trend should continue through at least the end of the year if not longer. All seems quite on the smaller lakes within the county and the only other positive fishing note seems to be fairly good catches of Perch from the bridges area of the oak all the way North to the Point. This is the time of year that you can always find that stretch of water for you to enjoy with no one else on around to share it with. Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
