Oak Orchard

Lake Ontario

Today is Tuesday May 29, 2012 Well I hope that everyone enjoyed that fantastic Memorial Day weekend. Lake Ontario is once again in its transition period meaning that if you find fish in a certain area today they most likely will be somewhere else tomorrow. The big question is "How long will it take to settle into summer conditions?" On the inland waters of Orleans County the picture is much more stable. The Erie Canal is still a hot spot for Bass all through Orleans County. Bass are also being caught in good numbers on Lake Alice along with Bluegill, some Walleye and Crappie at night. On Oak Orchard River below the dam Bluegill are being taken in the shallows for the entire length. Speaking of the Oak, Northern pike are being caught in the shallow areas around the boat launches on both the East and West side along with some very good size Walleyes at night. The Carp fishing on Glenwood Lake has been very good along with some good catches of both Northern Pike and Bass. Just a reminder again that Bass season doesn't open until the third Saturday in June so for right now its catch and immediately release. On Johnson Creek North of the Kuckville bridge good catches of Northern pike, Perch, Bass and a occasion Bowfin are being taken. This coming weekend (June 1, 2 and 3) is the Niagara Pro-Am Tournament followed the next weekend (June 8, 9 and 10) by the Orleans County Pro-Am Tournament. Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
