Today is Monday August 20, 2012. It doesn't happen very often but this year the Grand Prize winner of the Orleans County Rotary Club Derby is Kurt Charland and what makes it unusual is that he won with a 34.06 pound Lake Trout. Normally the Grand Prize winner is a Chinook salmon. Congratulations to all of the winners of this year's event. Just a reminder that the Great Niagara Fish Odyssey runs thru Sunday August 26th and that the Fall LOC derby runs thru September 3rd. On Lake Ontario fishing continues to be excellent for all of the cold water species. With the weather changing so much over the last week, the fish are moving everyday to stay with their preferred temperature range and the bait. The bait population this year appears to be very healthy and in great numbers. On the inland waters of Orleans County the picture has brightened considerably. Northern Pike fishing has really picked up over the last week in all of our inland waters. At the Waterport Bridge Bluegill catches are excellent during the day as well as the Crappie catches during the evening and night. Lake Alice is also producing some excellent Largemouth Bass fishing as well. There are some reports of some good Walleye being taken in the Otter Creek area. Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
