Oak Orchard

Lake Ontario

Today is Wednesday February 20, 2013. The temperature rollercoaster continues with below freezing temperatures thru Friday and then another warming trend thru the weekend and into next week. The snow we are receiving now will be melted by the rain that is predicted over the weekend. What all of this means for the tributaries in Orleans County is that flows should remain at levels and clarity that allow for a good fishery. There is still some ice along the shorelines but that should disappear with the warming trend of the upcoming weekend. Both dark and fresh Steelhead/Rainbow trout and still some Brown trout are being reported on both Oak Orchard River and Johnson Creek. Artificial baits tipped with a variety of live baits are being used keeping the presentation low and slow for these lethargic fish due to the cold water temperatures. Perch fishing is almost non-existent due to the lack of safe ice to be on in Orleans County. With February drawing to a close and only March standing in the way of the beginning of Lake Ontario fishing, it's time to sharpen hooks, load reels with fresh line and do the prep work on the boat. Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
