Oak Orchard

Lake Ontario

Today is Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Over last weekend, those who were fortunate enough to own a small boat or know someone who did got to enjoy some great Brown trout fishing along the shoreline of Lake Ontario off Orleans County. Clam winds, a flat lake and a sunny day was a good enough reason to try their luck, but then an active fishery and you have all the makings of a fantastic early season day. Unfortunately temperatures are returning to more normal levels with temperatures below freezing each night for the rest of the week and into early next week and the daytime highs still in the 30's. With that being said fishing conditions on the tributaries within Orleans County should be very good well into next week. Water flows are at a moderate level and water clarity runs from 1 to 2 feet of visibility to bordering clear. Even with a good Brown trout fishery occurring on Lake Ontario, there are still good numbers of both Brown trout and Rainbow/Steelhead trout throughout our tributaries. Perch fishing in on the rise on Oak Orchard River from the bridges area all the way to the point. It shouldn't be long before the Bullhead fishing comes into play and with that the full spring fishery can't be too far behind. Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
