Oak Orchard

Lake Ontario

Today is Wednesday March 27, 2013. It looks like we may finally be getting out of the winter doldrums with temperatures reaching up into the 40's. The tributary conditions within Orleans County have flows at low to moderate levels with almost clear water clarity. Even with these conditions there are still some active Steelhead/Rainbow trout being taken on all of our tributaries. On Oak Orchard River Perch fishing has been fairly active from the bridges area all the way to the point. Brown trout are being taken by those casting spoons and plugs from the jetties and, when weather conditions are favorable, from small boats trolling along the shoreline. A sure sign of the Lake Ontario fishing season being near at hand will take place on April 6th this year and that is the assembling of the pens used to pen rear Chinook salmon and Steelhead/Rainbow trout on Oak Orchard River. This project helps to insure a good return of these great fish to our tributaries in the fall and helps to maintain our "World Class Fishery" year round. To help out with this project all that you have to do is to show up at Lake Breeze, Marina 990 Point Breeze Road at 8 AM on April 6th. Every extra pair of hands is always greatly appreciated. Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
