Oak Orchard

Lake Ontario

Today is Wednesday April 17, 2013. The rains of the past week or so have pushed the levels of the tributaries within Orleans County to moderate & high levels. On the smaller tributaries, water levels are at moderate levels with stained water. On the "Oak" water levels approach the high mark with muddy conditions. Levels should subside over the next few days with the only rain forecasted for Friday. All this water should have brought some fresh Steelhead/Rainbow trout into the system to mix in with the drop backs. Perch fishing on the "Oak" remains fairly good all the way from the bridges to the point. Fishing the waters of Lake Ontario is proving to be very productive by both those fishing from the piers and from boats. The boats seem to be working the 10 to 15 foot range, right along the edge of the mud line. In that stained water lures with chartreuse and orange patterns seem to be the key to success. Catches consist mainly of Brown trout but an occasional King salmon is being taken. With the improving weather, it shouldn't be long before the warm water species become more active in our tributaries. LOC Spring Derby starts May 3rd so don't forget to get your entries in. Don't be the one with that winning fish and the if only I would have entered blues. Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
